WordPipe's Evaluation version opens with a countdown nag screen. The program's main interface is a businesslike dialog with a few simple file menus, including a Help file, and basic control icons above a tabbed display. Add and Delete buttons below the main window make it easy to add entries to the list of items to replace on the Actions tab; the Files tab manages your searches and the Options tab accesses configurations. Some check boxes for search options and the main control buttons round out the interface. These control buttons, Replace and Find Only, initiate a search or the wholesale replacement of the items you've selected. We tried the scanner on the Options tab to find a saved Word doc to test and had WordPipe replace every instance of "it" with "ni," which it did while displaying a progress bar.
WordPipe is free to try for 30 days and works in Windows versions from 95 to Vista and Word versions subsequent to Word 97. It leaves behind folders when it's uninstalled but is otherwise a good team player. It can make short work of major revisions that would take hours with Word's built-in find-and-replace feature, and we recommend it.
